Maple would probably dig the giant chess board near the church in Salzburg. Both Innsbruck & Salzburg seemed pretty cool.

my plans are wachau and burgenland:
http://www.hausimsee.at/ connected to Taubenköbel where there are also rooms but not the view. lots of options in burgenland, probably with more things to do i think but not sure the deal without car, this is just one that i know about – you can take a boat across sea to hungary, maybe there is a ferry or bus or train?
you can take a boat up to wachau easy peasy, parts are really beautiful. lots of inns and restaurants and hikes and wine and so on…
