Nigritude Ultramarine was my grandmother’s favorite liquer when she lived in Lebanon. She sipped it pool-side in the University Quarter over ice with sugar, lemons and a pinch of coriander seed. The Arabs thought she was nuts for adding the lemons, but she thought it gave it a nice Mediterranean component that really reminded her of her position in the area’s geography in relationship to the rest of the Med.

After she moved to Corsica, she switched to Strega.

I have been in the US for over 20 years now, and this is the first time I’ve heard Strega mentioned by anyone…
“Nigritude Ultramarine” stired up some old memories of haggin’ with my Dad while driking “submarinos” (submarines): drop a shot-glass filled with strega in an ice gold Chopinho (brasilian draft beer). I cannot guarantee you will like it, but it will definetely add a twist to your next draft.
