Brass Tacks in The ATL

May 26th, 2004 · 1 Comment

My buddy Gavin’s feature film Brass Tacks premieres in at the Rialto Center Theater in Atlanta on June 14.

All ATL-iens should attend. You’ll get a huge kick out of it, if for no other reason than to see The Earl on the big screen. But more than that, you’ll get to see Rob Mallard star as the “hero,” some amazing music, lots of the ATL, Chris Burt of PH Balance, the motherfucker-ist of drummers Quintin Baxter, Kebbi Williams, who blows horn for Outkast, Eisa Davis, Meghan Marx (formerly of TechTV, remember her?) and a show-stealing performance by Wes Daniels, who many of you will either know from the Atlanta music scene or recognize from Eats & Tortillas back in the day.

Beyond all that local flavor, it’s just a damn entertaining and funny film with some of the best-filmed musical performances I’ve ever seen.

You’ll be seeing (hopefully) a press blitz in all the local rags very soon, as Digger (Gavin) is in town doing interviews this week. Basically, we’re trying to blow this film up the way it deserves. To that end, invite everybody you know; the theater seats one thousand folks, and we have to rock it and represent most properly.

Here’s a copy of the flyer (click to make BIG):

This premiere is going to be a real event, complete with celebs and yak yak. Some of the foks in Outkast are allegedly attending, and we may even see, get this, the Godfather Of Soul. No shit.

So get your booty down to the Rialto on June 14th. Admission is $7.50 ($6.00 if you’re an IMAGE member, senior or student). Tickets can be purchased by calling the Box Office at (404) 352-4225 or by visiting www.ticketweb.com.

The after party takes place at The Earl in East Atlanta directly after the screening and will feature Positive Propaganda, the band put to gether specifically for this film. Positive Propaganda features Rob Mallard and Kebbi Williams on sax, reeds & winds, Patrick Byrne out of Scotland on keys and vocals, the previously-refreneced motherfucker Quentin Baxter on percussion, Wes Daniels of Savannah on guitar, and Chris Burt on bass. Epic.

If you’re interested, drop me a not or a comment on this post. I’d like to make a serious effort to gather a massive posse to head down there, armed with garden tools in order to beat all shortcomers.

Agreed on all counts!! I was fortunate enough to get into the private screening that got them into the Atl Film Fest. Even that small crowd was raucous throughout the movie. The movie was great and the music better. Everyone should get out for this, if not to support the effort of our fellow Atl’ans, because it going to be a helluva lot of fun! This will be talked about for a while.
