Trying to think of better excuses since 1995

Lost, Dropped and Cancelled

For some reason, probably because it’s fact, I think this song by emo-rockerz Rainier Maria r0×0r. I like the lyrices, especially the “mit Luftwaffe” part:

Expect me like one waits for mail, all lost dropped and cancelled. Like foreign post, i leave twice a day but take a week to get there.
Expect me like one waits for rain, or sleet or hail or snowfall. Like foreign post, i’m lost on the way and take a week to get there.
I want to be delivered until i’m gone gone gone.
The way it’s sealed in my heart it’s guaranteed that I’m in your hands by morning, when you’re ready to read between the lines— and the paper isn’t telling you anything.
If you miss me, drop me a line in care of fin de siecle, mit Luftwaffe.
It’s the end of the end of the end.

I’ve liked a few things by this band here and there since I first heard them on 88.5 back in 1995. However, I’ve never really listened to their albums a whole lot, nor have I been totally won over to call them a favorite.

This song may change that. It’s on the verge of poetic, but just obvious and emotive enough that it makes me dance along the line between asking myself “is that really cool, or really cheesy.” The funny misspoken “Airmail” slogans of the various nations is hilarious and poetically pithy at the same time, if such juxtapositions are possible.

I saw them play a totally kick-ass set at an amazing, but now-defunct, club that featured vintage 80s video games alongside the stage a few years back.

It’s hard to get more rockin’ then playing Galaga and Ms. Pac Man while Rainer Maria kicks it like the funky chicken on stage.

I saw Rainer Maria play a couple of years ago at the Echo Lounge. I remember a few of their songs completely blew me away.

On a somewhat related note a friend of mine, Jason Dove, acutally ran that short-lived arcade club that you saw Rainer Maria at. He lives in Baltimore now and I still keep in touch with him every once in a while.

    Here’s a link to his website: http://jasondove.com

    he’s a cool guy.
