If I can just sustain this level of quality, craft and wit in this site, my number one referrer is sure to be:

Sorry folks! Time to spend less time in MovableType and more time in the word processor.
But seriously, I’ve been thinking a tiny bit about this site. I have about 400 un-posted posts. Those are the good ones—the ones I was actually going to edit and end up with something special. They do not appear here, for they were never finished.
After years and years doing Halfass (founded in ‘95), it’s time again to re-think things a bit. I have nearly 1000 entries since 2001. It would be almost double that if I ever managed to convert my old content from 1995-1997 (97-00 was a Black Hole period, during which time I only updated the site once or twice).
Most of what you read here is weak in the signal-to-noise ratio: like this post. Posts about posting. It’s come to this.
So here’s my plan.
I said it’s just a plan. I may not adhere to it.
I’m going to try to stick to the quality over quantity theory on this site. I’m going to finish the posts I start and leave in “edit” mode for six months because I can’t get that one conclusive bit written. I’m going to attempt what I suffered 16 years of education to do well: write.
The results may suck, but the pithy little post style of narrative just isn’t cutting it for increasing or regaining my writing chops, which was one of my primary intentions for re-birthing this site with a weblog. The format is actually causing my attention span to decrease even more, when the opposite was supposed to be the effect. Since pithy writing requires skill and care, it’s something I’ve rarely achieved at Halfass.
And really, who cares what I have to say about terrorism, politics, my dog and my life? The only time I get any links or comments are when people want to correct my thinking on political matters, and I’m just a “me.” It’s just one asshole’s opinion in a sea of assholes.
I’m not trained in anything but technology and writing, and technology is what I allegedly do every day. So from now on, I’m going to try and reserve this space for writing.
You can expect occasional “Life” style updates, especially when my daughter is born (any day now!). Expect lots of photos and videos of her, and avoid as you will.
Hopefully my tens of readers will continue to check this site from time-to-time or, better yet, you can subscribe to the feed and be notified automatically when I update this site. Alternately (or additionally), you can subscribe to the halfass-update e-mail list, which is a one-way, broadcast e-mail list at which I will launch very occasional epistle missiles.
This is not one of those “retiring from blogging posts” by any stretch. On the contrary, I find “blogs” more engaging now than ever before. I will still be reading obsessively, posting occasionally, and definitely commenting frequently on other sites. So I’ll be seeing y’all around…

Just when I get back into the swim, everybody else starts talking about getting out of the pool.
