For those who haven’t been following the commentary on this entry, I’ll update you.
I posted a brief, but widely-linked, entry on what I think is the best boudin from the best boudin shop in the world: Boudin King. An intrepid reader and boudin afficionado by the name of Steven P. Keese agreed with my judgement, but others took an interest and, when controversy about my judgement surfaced, Mister Keese assembled a panel of experts to test the current top contenders for “Boudin Supremacy.”
The Winner… well, I’ll let you click on through to the entry and read the commentary. Scroll all the way down for Mister Keese’s panel’s pronouncement.

I am a graduate of The University of New Orleans and long time resident of the Crescent City. I am also deeply ashamed. I am ashamed of the ease with which I took every year and each experience for granted in that wonderful city. I lived in Riverbend, right at the Carrolton/St. Charles intersection directly behind Madigan’s Bar, and then again in Mid City near Jesuit High School.
There is a meat market on Airline Hwy in LaPlace that we always bought sausage from and everyone that ever tasted it thought it was the best in the city. I believe it was called Jacobs. The Hog Head Cheese and the Andouille were really good there as well.
Of course things change. In the 10 or so years I was there, I had an opportunity to sample a myriad of retail food outlets in the area. The Comeback Inn on W. Metairie Rd in Metairie had the best gumbo I had ever put in my mouth. Pure heaven in a bowl, and that was an understatement. I have consumed gallons of their particular take on the infamous seafood stew over the years.
Went directly there from the airport the last time I was in town and the dissappointment was absolutely hearbreaking. Not sure what happened to the place but the gumbo no longer ruled. In fact, it was so subpar that I did not finish what I ordered. I left the little greasy spoon with a feeling of loss only matched when a solid TN style Bar-B-Que place in Slidell closed down. My divorce was less painful than the closing of that smoke filled shack.
