Folklore.org collects stories surrounding the development of the original Macintosh computer.
Andy Hertzfeld made the site, and it’s a great read. Whether you’re a fan of the Macintosh or a sucker for a good story, this site delivers on every level. The reader is entertained, can learn about everything from capitalism to design, and the anecdotes shed light on some of the titan personalities in the then-nascent personal computing industry.
I’ve never even owned a Macintosh (although I’ve used them in school and professionally) and I find the stories so compelling that I accidentally stayed an hour late at work reading them (busted!).
Folklore.org is a true gem and a shining example of my favorite use of the web: delivering stories directly to the people. The creator of the site anticipates opening it up to host other projects in addition to the Macintosh project, which will be nothing short of amazing and I’ve already developed an internal list of projects I’d love to see in the future.
