After the fiber boom of the 90’s, I wouldn’t be suprised if in the near future one couldn’t drill into the ground and strike “oil,” so to speak. One could simply find some fiber, patch in, and build networks. I’m sure that a lot of these companies that ripped up the streets and installed millions of miles of fiber will go out of business and, while their assets will be purchased for “future use,” most comanies already have a shitload of their own fiber.

In the future, building your own private MAN will be a matter of digging a hole in your yard while your buddies do the same.
