The Dooce (site) has ceased publishing her site due to friction it has caused in her personal life.
I’m sad to see her go. Her sardonic musings and pithy analysis of common situations were a pleasure to read, and almost always side-splittingly funny. But I can respect her decisions. Go read her archives and witness just how much trouble her site has caused her. She was even fired from her job because of it.
That being said, I must say that this is precisely what happens when writers write too closely about themselves. Sure, people should toughen up, lighten up and chill out, but if you were the subject of a dooce-attack, you were not going to come out looking too good, despite the self-deprecating and humorous style of her writing. Just remember that you do have an audience when you write, and that audience could get pissed as hell.
Of the many sites I read regularly, the dooce (her real name is Heather Hamilton) was probably the most naturally talented writer. I can’t wait to see what she does next.
