  • @extraspecial Transit is a bit of a mess. Lines down a lot and busses are stuck in traffic. Plus: no elevators/escalators for strollers! #
  • Getting a late start to our London day. I don’t need to work today or tomorrow, so it’s family vacation London style starting now. #
  • Burrough Market was kick ass. The products were all basically the top end, the people were nice. Yuppie Heaven and not that expensive. #

  • @fredwilson Welcome to London! We have yet to have a smooth public transport journey. However, the town is kick effin a! #
  • Just ate more lunch than a reasonable human should. But the “mature” cheddar was so freaking good! #
  • Work for the week is over. Time to party! #
  • Maple: “I’m going to name my youngest daughter Patsy Cline and my oldest daughter Cline Patsy. Is that just the silliest thing ever?” #
  • So far, if it were a contest, Vienna would be winning for transit and beer, but London would be crushing in almost everything else. #
  • Also, in the contest of which city could bankrupt me quicker, London takes the game no contest. This town is expensive for real. #
  • Just ate the best ice cream I’ve had since leaving Portland (with 1 exception in Venice). OMG! REAL pistacio ice cream. Watermelon 4 Mapes #

Serendipity

July 16th, 2008 ·

Just posting a weird coincidental occurance.

I was in Hyde Park with my family, when my wife mentioned that old game show “Child’s Play.” For those who don’t remember, the premise was that a child would describe something (on video), and the adults would try to guess and, by doing so successfully, somehow win the game.

There was this cute know-it-all type kid on the show named Sascha Segan. I was thinking about him and thought, “I should Google him when I get home.”

Of course I forgot. But I didn’t forget to read my daily Daring Fireball and, specifically, this article in which Gruber references an article by Sascha Segan who, it turns out, is the Sascha Segan I remembered.

Weird.

  • Why is the Sonic Youth “Goo” T-shirt everywhere in London. Was it on TV or something? #
  • @fredwilson Ha! Maybe I’ll bump into you—in London all week. BTW, would be curious what you think; feels like the capital of the world. #
  • Maybe going to Doctor Johnson’s House at lunch. http://bit.ly/3KQzVV Dude was such a badass; he wrote the first English dictionary. #
  • Lunch with Doctor Johson: http://bit.ly/3tJ2qy #

  • I’m up at it’s GMT! Oh, London, why must I work now and be away from you for 8 hours? #
  • Huge London day yesterday in… Hackney. Also, Spitalfields, etc. What a cool area of town these days—20 years ago: much different! #
  • Also: I’ve never seen more diversity in humanity than in the several blocks around Brick Lane in London on a Sunday. Fascinating. #
  • Training on Threadneedle Street, City of London. #
  • My family was treated to a roadside hershey squirt from a drunken man yesterday. Niiiiiice1. #
  • @JohnKenn We did use Heathrow Express. Paddington was not being serviced by 2 lines, then alternate route line broke down. #
  • I’ve had 4 shots of espresso so far today. That’s a single serving for @seanbonner, but it’s a lot for us mere mortals. #
  • is London a fantasy park purely for the affluent? Shit is teuer. #

  • @textism So true. Wasn’t a standing army on Earth that could have lasted against the Wehrmacht at that time. Peeps just don’t realize… #
  • So, how long does it take to get from Heathrow to The City. Well, for us, with not one, but two closed underground lines: 3 hours. #

  • Getting super stoked for London. #
  • wow. British Bookshop in 1010 Wien is totally barren. Collapse is imminent, methinks. #

  • So what is the deal with me.com and .mac? They’re both unavailable. Is this planned or did the migration fart? #
  • Right on! MB on Obama’s spine: #
  • Right on: MB on Obama’s spine: http://tinyurl.com/56k8xr #
  • Thank you Senator Clinton for having the ovum to vote against FISA! #
  • Well, I can’t seem to get a single .mac or mobile me resource here in Austria. What Up? #
  • How to get the app store even if you don’t have beta 2: find a web page link to an app in the store, then clicky clicky. #
  • For example, i clicked on the link to ConnectedFlow’s exposure, and now I’m in app store. (Must have latest iTunes, too). #
  • Pain: receiving and then paying a five figure monthly Amex bill. #
  • So. What is this rumored me.com? Is Apple’s strategy to have .Mac down for 24 hours but never launch Mobile Me? #
  • Maple, when we started playing “kitchen”: first we have to run the pipes and make the taps for our sink. #
  • Wow. I’m certain that iCal is the worst interface I have ever encountered on a Mac. I mean, how the hell does one work this thing? #

  • How about that Obama, eh? He’s sucking up to the big boys now that he has all of you tech nerds’s $50.00. Oh, but you can still hope. #
  • I should really be sleeping, but I can’t stop reading about places I won’t be able to go in London. #

"This is what dancers do", originally uploaded by scottpartee.

Maple thinks this is what dancers do because every painting or photograph she sees of them in the antique shop windows features this pose.
